In 1986, a group of tournament promoters joined together with a shared love and vision for Tournament Sport Karate and formed the North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA). These promoters, all being current and past competitors, set a goal of uniting sport karate across North America. To emphasis and keep their eyes on such a lofty goal, the first NASKA logo had “Uniting Sport Karate” written in a 360 degree circle around the map of North American. In the years since 1986, the main core of these promoters with their dedicated goal in sight, were able to stay united and keep NASKA moving forward. Additional committed promoters have been added over the years helping NASKA grow even stronger. Many new organizations have come and gone since 1986, but with our vision still focused on uniting sport karate, NASKA has become today’s leader in Tournament Sport Karate.
Thousands and thousands of competitors, coaches, instructors, officials and promoters have taken part in NASKA tournaments since 1986. Within this group of people some have reach a level of greatness that has help transform the sport into what it is today. These legacies of sport karate have left their defining signatures on our sport.
In order to give thanks and celebrate our sport’s greatest leaders and their accomplishments, NASKA is forming the “NASKA Hall of Fame”. Our first NASKA Hall of Fame nominations will be announced in April, 2011 and the first “NASKA Hall of Fame Inductees” will be announced by the end of the year.
